Our History
Since 2004, Maine lawyers have been united for justice.
The Campaign for Justice was established in 2004 to expand access to civil legal aid so vulnerable Mainers don’t have to navigate the justice system on their own—a situation that can be detrimental to all parties and to the system itself.
As the only fundraising effort in Maine founded and directed by lawyers, the Campaign for Justice offers the legal community an effective and streamlined way to come together to make access to justice a reality by helping to address the most urgent service priorities of six civil legal aid providers that serve clients statewide.
When the Campaign for Justice was first established, it was administered by the Maine Justice Foundation (at the time known as the Maine Bar Foundation) on behalf of the six civil legal aid organizations. In 2024, by agreement, full responsibility for the Campaign for Justice was transferred by the six legal aid providers collectively to Pine Tree Legal Assistance holding the DBA for the Campaign for Justice.
